Some things I’ve enjoyed recently?
Miya Folick has shown herself to be a really wonderful creature on stage; a great example of the reward in spontaneous ticket shopping!
The Coathangers brought their high energy, instrument swapping punk rock to Oslo (watch this video for Watch Your Back!)
‘How to Murder Your Life’ – Cat Marnell’s amphetamine memoir filled a lot of the time I spent reading in bars. Cat is as stubborn in her surviving the 2000s as she is a hilarious and insightful writer. I loved reading this as a break from what I normally get through.
The playlist I’ve put together over this period is a little different to the others. The most energy appears later on, with a calmer introduction and a dreamy ending. I’ve played the Dum Dum Girls track around my house a lot recently and keep being asked what it is – the feeling it drapes over you is a familiar desperation you often find at the end of a party.
I fell asleep in the silence that followed listening to this playlist yesterday, I really like it.
[I’ve just noticed how many bands in this episode have names in ALL CAPS.]
